The Challenging Condition for Trekking Industries

Travel industries in all over the world become suffer because peoples stop traveling.
Many hotels receive booking cancelation.

Most of the airlines cancel the flights because of lockdown and travel restriction in many countries.
It also happen in Nepal.

In the final of March, but just 7 days before my flight, Nepal government announced a complete nationwide lockdown along with a restriction on all international flights.

Between the months of March and May, tourists enjoy the best of the spring. Spring time is high-season and busy times for trekking trail along Himalayas.

But between March and May 2020, the number of tourists dropped. Most of the peoples in Nepal working in trekking industries. Guides, trekking agencies, hotels, teahouse lost their income.

Tourism is the mainstay for most of these villages along Himalayas, providing most of their incomes and employment.

The challenging condition for traveler

This condition not only impact for travel industries as travel provider. But it also impact us as a traveler.
Many trekkers and travelers cannot go home, back to their countries.

Most of peoples doing work from home and do social distancing. Many peoples lost their jobs and some of them lost their loved ones.  Unskilled day workers suffer from hunger and lack of money.

Middle-class people got anxiety of financial crisis.

Manage budget for travel. It is wise to not buy a ticket in a rush after the lockdown finish. Hold yourself to buy airlines ticket, wait for 6-9 month after the situation better.

Double check the regulation at Nepal’s immigration or transit country.

Use that time for saving. Make a personal project like “90 days saving money for travel”. Avoid to buy unessential things. Declutter your closet, maybe you find trekking gear that still in excellent condition.

Hold yourself to buy new trekking gear. Invest only in essential trekking gear like trekking shoes, sleeping bag, and comfortable rucksacks and backpacks to carry your thing during the trek.

If you can compromise use second hand trekking gear with excellent quality.  Consider rent non-essential trekking gear when you reach Nepal.

Change your itineraries based on your budget.

Consider decreasing your budget.Choose to trek with low/medium budget. Consider choosing cheaper or short trekking destination in Nepal, but still comfortable and safe.

Gosaikunda Lake trek in Langtang Region is one of wonderful choice. Not so crowded and popular compare to Everest and Annapurna. But give you best view of 99th on the world’s (Langtang Li rung 7234 meters) and  100 highest mountain peaks (Langtang Ri 7205 meters)

Langtang range, lying to the north of the Kathmandu valley. Langtang Mountain range is the closest mountains from Kathmandu.

You can save your budget because no need to buy domestic flight to Pokhara-Annapurna or Lukla-Everest.
Else, you can trek to Gosaikunda Lake, in langtang region. This is one of the most famous and scared lakes of Nepal.

Hinduism believe Lord Shiva create Gosaikunda Lake.
Trishuli river, one of the major river system of Nepal originates from that very point.

If you trek here in July, you also can see “Janai Purnima” festival. Gosaikunda gets thousands of Pilgrims during the annual festival of “Janai Purnima”.

Trekking in off season also can save your budget.

Choose sustainable travel style to help local peoples and maintain long-term travel without harming natural and cultural environments.

Save money, in advanced with buy travel insurance, to protect if something happen and flight cancellation. Else, travel insurance is compulsory to trek in high altitudes.

Sure, the situation will recover, but we don’t know how long we need to wait until this situation will end.
So become a wise traveler.

Do more home exercises to increase fitness level. If possible to walk in early morning 1 until 2 hours every day. Increase Your Exercise Frequency. Walking or jogging by yourself in your neighborhood.

Do body training. You don’t need free weights or resistance bands to strength-train at home. You can use your own bodyweight to hit each muscle group for a full workout.

Practice breathing Technique, continue to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth

Final thought: The lesson learn of Pandemic, cleaner life on planet earth

Despite of economic challenging for all of us.  Mother Nature is heal.
Social distancing and travel restriction make air pollution decrease. Thick smog and dusty blanketing Kathmandu valleys is a thing of the past.

Following weeks of physical distancing measures and lockdown, sky become so clear that even residents can see Himalayas Mountains from their house. The similar things happen in India. Residents report, they can see Himalayan Mountains from their rooftop at home in Punjab, India.

For the first time in almost 30 years could see the Himalayas because of India’s lockdown clearing air pollution.
Many of us now learn for a healthier, safer, and cleaner life on planet earth. We have the technology but this tiny viruses knock down to us.

Now, many of us learn to understand that human wellbeing and the health of the planet is the most important.
Reevaluate and arrange where financial post you can save. It’s wise to travel with conscious. Spent for only essential things. Choose sustainable travel to valuing the environment and looking after the natural resources
