Legging is good and comfort for trekking. It’s light and tight. Even though women traveler discourage not to wear tight leggings.
It because leggings show the shape of the thigh and buttocks while trekking, to respect Nepalese’s culture and tradition.
Women that wear leggings while trekking in a remote area and mountain, might consider immodest.
You still can wear leggings and using loose and long tops to cover the buttocks, so it still support your active movement.
Most of the population in Nepal adheres to Hinduism and Buddhism. In ancient Hindu culture, men and women discourages to dressing in attractive that show or revealing the skin and bodies.
The current “Hindu culture” might be different and have evolution because mix culture with a modern lifestyle.
In cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, maybe you will see many of Nepalese girl also wear short, and dress that expose their skin.
And if you also using short, might be they will not comment, so you feel that it’s not big deals.
According to Buddhism point of view, we should practice non-attachment to find the truth of ourselves. Avoid attachments that lead to Suffering.
And sexuality gives the greatest attachment to the body and gender. That’s why in Nepal cultures, women and men encouraging to dress modestly and avoid revealing clothes that lead to negative thoughts.
Standards of modesty are different in a unique country and culture. The context of dress modesty is dependent and differ.
In Nepal, it maybe they may consider it inappropriate to wear clothes that tight and expose your body shape.
It also consider to immodest if you wear an outfit that reveal certain parts of the body.
For example, using short miniskirt that show tight and tops that reveal your shoulder.

What if I wear Leggings?
Most active peoples wear leggings and shorts for support postures and movement.
Especially when they are doing active activity like running, trekking, yoga
It because leggings categorized as active wear that great to ease the movement, compare to jeans and other long pants.
The good leggings can help absorb moisture from the sweat body and allowing its evaporating faster. That’s making the skin stay dry.
Good legging have compression characteristic.
This characteristic help us recover from tough workout or intense activities like 5-6 hour walking up in Himalayas
Leggings cover all leg skin, and it did not reveal skin. Even though, compression characteristic make leggings reveal the shape of your tight and buttocks.
It could lead to negativity thought relate with sexually attractive.
Can I wear leggings and being respectful to local?
I suggest you to wear good leggings while you do trekking but wear long and loose top under the buttocks.
It will let you have active movement and respect local cultures without scarifying your comfort.
Looser and higher cut tops that cover the shoulders, arms, and buttocks. I suggest you to wear comfort outfit that not revealing the shape of a body.
You also can wear leggings and inner base t-shirt and style it with oversized tops.
Oversized style can make you look cute, without sacrificing your style.
We are trekking at high altitudes.
Spring time or summer the weather is around 7 °C–16 °C in daytime at September-November.

That season is the best time to visit Nepal because of warm temperature and clear sky that reveal the beauty of a mountain.
Average temperatures in Nepal drop 6°C for every 1,000 meter we are walking up and gain in altitude.
It will be colder, so wear warm legging with looser long top t-shirt and inner base is feel great.
Avoid using cottons leggings because cotton is a natural fiber. Cotton will absorb moisture rather than repelling it and forcing the sweat to keep on your skin.
It could be a risk to hypothermia. A medical emergency which the body cannot restore body heat because the temperature drops too quick. This condition makes your body temperature reach a very low temperature under 35 °C.

Tight-fitting leggings also have little protection against mosquitos. So choose the excellent one.
Other style to wear leggings is use as a base layer in chilly temperature and winter. I suggest you to wear leggings under hiking pants.
Two layers will be better than one in chilly temperature.
Trek in winter not recommend even though you still can trek in start of winter in early December or end of November.
I do trekking at Christmas, and it give me wonderful experience and give me an opportunity to catch snow during the trek.
You can find and wear purpose-made thermal leggings using Heat tech fabrics.
These have a bit of fuzzy fleece on the inside, instead of just flat shiny fabric like ordinary leggings.
Fleece are often easier to breathe. This is optimal for high activities, such as hiking. Light Fleece can be soft and fuzzy or very smooth.

How about wear hiking or outdoor pants?
I recommend you to wear hiking pants for trekking.
You can buy cheap and good hiking pants in Kathmandu. Good hiking pants will not rip off or tear. Choose the hiking pants that have quick-drying fabric. It will help you to not stay wet for long because of sweat, rain or water when you cross the rivers.
And the minor things that will be useful for you is many of hiking pants have zip pockets. You can save mint candies in your pockets to get instant energies.
Mint can make you fresh and ease your breath, since oxygen saturation is low in high altitude.
Hiking pants design to ease you in terms of insulation or breathability.
Avoid wear cotton when you are hike or trek. Many outdoor pants are a blend of Synthetics like nylon, polyester, and elastane.
It is designed to help increase evaporation and take out sweat from your body.
I trekked in a pair of hiking pants that fit looser and it help me a lot to cover me from the dirt and dust.

What is comfort outfit to trek in Himalayas?
Many trekkers suggest you to wear Layering style during the trek. Many of them suggest using at least three layer. First layer is base layer. It is necessary when you enter highest point in trekking.
However, when you still in moderate altitude or begin the trek, you might not need to wear base layer.
You should wear base layer that fit and comfortable. You can use thermal or heat-tech fabrics will make your body keep warm.
The second layer is the clothes you’ll wear on top of the base layer. The second layer is fleece that will keep you warm. These mid-layer is usable in both the upper and lower parts of the body.
This mid-layer will keep body heat and protect you from the cold.
The third layer is outer layer or shell layer. It shields you from wind and rain. Therefore you can wear a waterproof down jacket for that. It’s always a superb idea to take all layers on every trekking activity.
You can peel off layers later, if you feel the temperature heat up.
My Last thought
It is okay to wearing leggings while you trek.
Even though you need to style your outfit. Style your leggings with a top that cover your arms and lower body. Dress nicely and modestly without sacrifice style and comfort.
Wearing loose oversized top also can make you look cute.
It is better and wise to respect local culture and tradition when you are visiting Nepal.
Other than that, Himalayas have high elevation, it’s colder and the temperature drop 6°C for every 1,000 meter you gain the altitudes. So it’s better to wear leggings as a base layer.
The important thing when you are trekking is your love story between you and Mother Nature, the greater Himalayan Mountains.
That’s why wear an outfit that make you warm, comfort and support your movement. You also can play with colors, match and mix your outfit to keep you look cute while you are trekking.
Love the nature, keep traveling, respecting other culture and be yourself.
